Credit Card Security Tips

As a customer with a credit card what do you need to know about keeping your credit card information secure when purchasing online, using your card in public

When purchasing products or services off the internet remember these simple rules:

  • Make sure your computer doesn’t have any viruses on it
  • Don’t use companies which you haven’t herd of
  • Always log out of your account after use
  • Make sure the website your on has SSL (secure socket layer) encryption
  • Always review your monthly bill including all spending over the month
  • If you believe you credit card information has been compromised, call your lender
  • Banks will never email you requesting your card information

Those Credit card tips are great for online use but how can I protect myself offline?

  • Never give out your credit card number or other details on your credit card
  • If using your card for a cash withdrawal make sure the ATM doesn’t have any kind of “scanning device” attached
  • If you lose your wallet, cancel your card immediately
  • Have insurance on your card for stolen cards
  • Watch out for merchants double charging your card

Credit card protection is all about being fully away of how much is being spent on your card and knowing where your card is at all time. Follow these tips and you can rest easy knowing no one is stealing your money.
